Ah, Venice again…
Travelling down the grand canal on a vaporetti this morning was amazing and wonderful. I just kept grinning. This was the one Italian town I really wanted to see again. And here I am.
Spent the whole day looking at cool art at the Biennale. Even managed to get press accreditation, so it’s costing me nothing.
Remember how part of this trip was supposed to be about what I do next? I think I want to do this, just travel around from festival to festival writing. Don’t know how that works in with the possible having-a-kid thing but damn it sounds appealing.
I’m very impressed with the Australian showing here: I thought Patricia Piccinini’s work was impressive when I saw it at the Biennale of Sydney last year but now I can see it’s really world class.
Other really impressive work included the Danish pavilion with a bunch of optical illusions, including a work which makes you see in black and white in a yellow field, somewhat like how I imagine Lizz K views the world and just like that scene from the Brit 70s TV movie where the boy goes into the television. I also liked a few of the works of trash influence.
The only real drawback of being here is that it turns out I’ll now miss Krystal… we were supposed to catch up in Prague, but she got there earlier than I expected and then we didn’t manage to get in touch properly until today. Dammit.
