Well, the Ars Electronica DVD showing was sadly under-attended… but fun, and then I was dragged out to play pool by agwat where I finally met Craig who has occasionally posted on my journal. I play a godawful game of pool so I was mostly there for the company.

I hadn’t realised Craig was matoko’s ex of 6 years, and he didn’t know I was hawk_eye’s ex of 8 years. (For Melbourne folk and others who don’t know, hawk_eye and matoko are now a very firmly enmeshed item and we both wish them all the best). So that was kind of bizarre.

Highlight of the evening had to be the discussion started by the pub playing Sherbert over the video system (oh, I know I’m back in Australia… last night I heard Noiseworks and Chisel and who knows what other gems). The gist of the discussion was that Sherbert is the ultimate New Wave post-punk band that started the entire New Romantics manufactured pop stuff and that (Craig claims) the Easybeats are proto-punk.

Realising we were entirely too sober, we repaired to the Townie, a pub I’ve previously avoided, then to the more familar turf of the Bank (and may I say, a Caipiroska works rather well with a shot of Frangelico in it, like the old Frangelico and lime juice we used to have at the North Fitzroy Star but better), then to Zanzibar and finally back to Naomi’s.
