I think the thesis might be finished. I re-did the conclusion yesterday morning and tidied all the things marked “check this”. I proof-read the thing including the bibliography last week and added three squillion full stops in places like (ed.) and moved around people’s names and surnames so they were consistent.
I even tracked down my old History teacher from high school, Margaret Little, and thanked her for introducing me to Marxism. I’ve gone beyond it now, of course, but without the foundation…
So, this week I’ll be buying pretty paper to print it on and adding linkies into the electronic version.
This means I also have time to be outraged again at our government… Although I find it harder to be outraged on things like gay marriage because I oppose the institution of state-sanctioned marriage in the first place, I still think Howard’s proposal to ban gay marriage is pretty rank. I thought it was a fait accompli, but apparently it’s not yet been enacted, so if this makes you sick, write a letter. I’d prefer we have a kiss-in outside parliament house which would be more fun and confront the homophobes with the desire that repels them, but somehow I don’t think that will actually change any laws.
I have one question though: if the Marriage Act doesn’t currently state that marriage is between a man and a woman, exactly what has been stopping all the same sex couples in love from getting married? And shouldn’t they all run out and get married immediately (those that want to) before this change takes effect?
EDIT: sleazemonkey has made a beautiful post about his reaction to the marriage thing.
