I wish I’d thought of this one. Mira Wroblewski took the Sydney Morning Herald to the Press Council over its use of the term “illegal immigrant”… and won.
Given how strongly I feel that language affects the way we think, these kinds of interventions are really important. I’m amazed but gratified that the Press Council agreed.
I think it’s kinda funny that the press release quotes Merlin on the “Free th refugees” without attribution… and that I got the cultural reference. Ah, the intertextuality!
