Mean­while, the Cath­olic Church has taken the amaz­ing step of releas­ing a teach­ing doc­u­ment explain­ing (mostly to the poor South­ern Baptists, I think) that (shhh!) not everything you read in the Bible is true.

I’m fas­cin­ated that they include the ‘women are cursed with birth pain and men have God’s per­mis­sion to rule over them’ and the anti-Semitic injunc­tion as some of the untrue bits. Go the Cath­olic Church! Now, about the bit where it says “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live…” and the bit about gay sex being an abom­in­a­tion… oh, and about spill­ing your seed upon the ground – that’s just about being tidy, right? Do it into a recept­acle and use a tissue? So we’re not going to go blind.

Sorry, I seem to be in a very sar­castic mood this morning.
