I can’t believe Howard is saying fur­ther drafts of the terror legis­la­tion will be sent on paper to premi­ers to avoid fur­ther leakage.

Don’t you trust us, Mr Howard? Wor­ried we might actu­ally see some­thing and dis­agree with it? Wer­en’t you sup­posed to be rep­res­ent­ing us? Isn’t that what “rep­res­ent­at­ive demo­cracy” is all about? I’ve never actu­ally liked rep­res­ent­at­ive demo­cracy for pre­cisely this reason: rep­res­ent­at­ives are not account­able after elec­tion. Bring on par­ti­cip­at­ory demo­cracy! Del­eg­ates not rep­res­ent­at­ives, fed­er­al­ism or mutu­al­ism not this pathetic excuse for government.

Oh, and yet again – I prob­ably could­n’t say this after the anti-terror legis­la­tion is passed: dis­sent and cri­ti­cism of the gov­ern­ment will be a crime with a seven-year sen­tence attached.
