Little or no jail for 11% of rapists

Okay, my little anonym­ous inter­locutor whose iden­tity I’m pretty cer­tain of… you want to talk about rape? This can be the appro­pri­ate forum…

Accord­ing to today’s art­icle in The Age, one in ten rap­ists gets a par­tially or wholly sus­pen­ded jail term and is out there on the streets again. This crime needs to be taken a lot more ser­i­ously and we need to work against the idea that anyone ever asks for rape. Yes means yes, no means no, how­ever we dress, wherever we go.

I may not par­ti­cip­ate until Monday, when the picnic and rally are done, but you guys go for it… I won’t delete any replies unless it starts to get per­sonal or incites viol­ence… reasoned debate wel­come here.

ps: can I just say how inspir­ing it is to be work­ing on this peace rally while listen­ing to Sheva? Muslims and Jews from Israel play­ing music of peace together…
