I cannot comprehend what Israel has chosen to do in the last few weeks, nor how this ‘escalation’ is supposed to solve anything. Do they really think they’ll get their soldiers back by killing civilians? How can they not see the consequences of this?
I also want to know why bombing civilians in retaliation for military action is called terrorism when it’s done by people without governments but when it’s authorised by governments, this State-sponsored terrorism is left unnamed. This is use of terror for political purposes. Therefore it is terrorism.
In other news, buffcoatlifter and I went out last night to eat soupe a l’oignon, escargots, boeuf bourgignon (him not me) and chocolat brà»lée to celebrate the birth of the Republic of France (Bastille Day). Sadly, that little experiment ended in Empire and a reign of terror or two for a while as well before returning to some sense of stability without the aid of a dictator. It only took from 1789 to 1848. Sigh. Perhaps, though, that means there’s hope? Liberté, égalité, fraternité!
