From p_cat:

HAVE YOU ENROLLED TO VOTE? From April 2007, the Howard Government will be making it harder to enrol to vote. As of this date you will require numerous forms of ID and witnesses – a ”100 point” check, similar to opening a bank account – just to ensure that your name is on the electoral roll. This will also apply to you if you simply need to change your address!

Further to that, the electoral rolls will now be closing on the day the election is called. Previously, there was a one week period between the election being called, and the closing of enrolments. During the last federal election, 80000 people enrolled in this period, and a further 225000 changed their address to ensure their voice would be heard. The new legislation denies the chance for anyone to do that this time. This will disadvantage young people (particularly students living on campus), people who rent, and the indigenous community.

Please do not risk having your voice silenced.

ENROL TO VOTE NOW! Take advantage of the regulations now, before it gets that much harder. Go to https://oevf.aec.gov.au/ [1] to check your enrolment details.

Checked. Am enrolled. Would have been a fair bit harder to go through that rigmarole from California!

[1] I’ve changed the link so it goes direct to the enrolment checking page as it’s a little hard to spot.
