This weekend, Australia is getting together, via a large number of community representatives, and having an enormous discussion about our future. It’s one of those grand democratic gabfests that you dream about when you’re a young undergraduate politics student, and I would have given just about anything to be there.
I contributed my thoughts extremely briefly via the Your Rights at Work web site when I got their e‑mail asking for suggestions and wrote something for GetUp too. I was so busy with my old job that somehow I missed the invitation for all Australians to make direct submissions, but a friend just linked to the Australia 2020 Submissions home page where all the submissions are published. I feel a little like I missed an opportunity to contribute to my society here, even though I did contribute a little.
I can’t wait to hear what the outcomes of the discussion are.
