Frickin’ awesome.
Starbucks strike in Aotearoa.
I’ve been waiting for the precarious labour force to get pissed off enough to take some action at this end of town. It’s not the first casual workers’ strike: there have been McDonalds’ strikes and others. But Australasia often seems too ‘comfy’ and I think, as someone was saying earlier, that there’s a culture of non-protest that’s been cultivated…
What makes this even better is that they were joined by KFC, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut employees. Now if we can just get the same kind of effect across call centres… or even solidarity from call centre workers to fast food workers… then we’ll be on our way to solving the crisis of precarious work.
