[Note: this is a repost as you can’t edit a post with a poll in it.]
A childhood friend of mine, Mark, found my journal many months ago and then joined up, becoming bourdieu_boy. Then he found that what he wanted to do with the journal didn’t really suit the style of LJ, and he set himself up a WordPress space (I knew this, but I was just reminded because he pointed me at a seminar he did last year about the BBC’s representation of China).
I like the style of the space a lot and it has been a better way to read his more academic writing. There have been articles around the place too about blogging versus journalling. I’ve been wondering for a while about how my various blogging is done. There’s a lot of personal blogging that goes on under the surface on this LJ and I’m thinking I might separate the political blogging from the personal blogging and also run a separate space for my poetry. Many of you already know that I have a space for my poetry on my own site but adding a poem always means a lot of work categorising and re-uploading pages because it’s not databased, although it is these days, thank goodness, based on templates and CSS.
I guess I’d then have three different sites, two WordPress ones and an LJ one, and there’d be some way I’d use the various syndication options of all three to continue the space that is currently mordwen’s lounge.
This is an enormous project. I think some market research is in order.
[Due to the nature of text-based communication there may be some misunderstandings here. I want to point out that I am in one of the best moods I’ve been in for months and months. All the ‘negative’ bits of this are tongue in cheek and were designed to add a little humility to what I thought was looking arrogant. Also, the ‘how often do you read’ is sort of ‘how often do you read your friend’s page?‘for LJ users. Since this poll has been adjusted since it was first posted, the first four respondents’ responses (halloranelder, damien_wise, qamar and splodgenoodles) aren’t showing up but I have seen them. If you guys want to re-fill in, you’re welcome…]
