Only Geoffrey Robertson could actually ask Amanda Vanstone on national television to recite the second verse of the national anthem and catch her out on “for those who’ve come across the sea/we’ve boundless plains to share” and then actually say to her, “It doesn’t say anything about mandatory detention in Baxter, does it? Doesn’t say anything about Nauru?”
She fluffed about us taking more people in need of resettlement blah blah, but *we* know that’s the official people, not the unofficial arrivals who end up in unofficial refugee camps elsewhere. When you use that measure, we are certainly not the largest taker of people in need of resettlement.
Anyway, the man’s a bloody genius.
