It was recently brought to my attention that I may not have promoted a certain carnival so that people knew what it was all about.
Join me for a carnival beyond capitalism in response to the G20’s presence in Melbourne.
Contrary to cop propaganda, we’re planning a Reclaim the Streets-style street carnival, not a violent lockdown.
The Stop G20 Carnivale Parade and Street Festival will bring colour
and community to the streets of Melbourne on Saturday November 18th.The Street Festival incorporates Indigenous performances, music,
street theatre, the Stop G20 Cabaret, The Free Market, information
stalls, food and fun as a creative way to draw attention to the
objectives of the G20 meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. All community members are invited to attend to both protest and come
together in unity against the corporate-led capitalist agenda of the
G20 meeting. The Carnivale includes performances by Early Nerd Special,
Lycanthropy, Star 10 #, The Assassination Collective, Dance Contest,
The Unit, Schifosi, Unity, P.Chi, Madaline, Dj Bingi Fire, Dj Wasabi,
Dj Monkey Marh, Dj Sakamoiz, No Nuke Nancy, Minnie the Mutant, The Fat
Men Of Forestry, Captain Starlight, The Rebel Clowns, Zombie Block,
The Radical Cheerleeders, The Tranny Cops and many more.”The Carnivale Street Festival aims to be a safe, community-focused and
inspired event. It aims to facilitate a space where people can be
present in opposition to the G20 meeting, and will be a celebration of
culture, community and of having a conscience,” said Nicole Peach,
Stop G20 Carnivale Collective member. ”It is a grass roots event that
reflects people’s grave concerns over the vision for the future that
is being enacted by our global leaders. We say we have an alternative
vision — a vision that is based on respecting Indigenous sovereignty,
caring for our planet and its environment, and looking after our
community.”
I’m helping do the Free Market (bring your stuff to give away!) and street theatre about inoculation against the neo-liberal disease…
