I picked up today’s classifieds section as a completely random thing at a bus stop in Doncaster East, because I’d forgotten my book and had nothing to read. I flipped through the pages. There, at the bottom of a page was an ad for Fairfax Photos, an opportunity for readers to buy old images from the Age. And there, in stunning colour, staring out at me, were Aveline and Jaffa and some other friend of theirs, Jaffa grinning and Aveline frowning at the photographer, her signature razorwire-rosethorn entwined in black in her forehead, a chain from her lip to her ear.
It’s a year since she died. Thanks for finding a way to say hi, babe. Still love you, still miss you.
