[Eight year old] Nojoud Muhammed Nasser arrived at court by herself on Wednesday, April 2, looking for a judge to handle her case against her father, Muhammed Nasser, who forced her two months ago to marry Faez Ali Thamer, a man 22 years her senior. The child also asked for a divorce, accusing herhusband of sexual and domestic abuse.

Brave, brave girl. Even more so, because her mother wouldn’t help her and because she is not living in America or Britain or here where her school would be teaching her that this sort of thing is wrong.

It’s to fight for all the little girls experiencing awful things like this that I still want to work for an organisation like Amnesty International, defending human rights [1].

In better news, Kevin Rudd appointed a woman, Quentin Bryce, to the post of Governor-General, the highest office in the land until we overthrow the Queen become a republic.
