Great weekend. Party here Friday was wonderful, then sleazemonkey had a Mexican Day of the Dead party and then Christina’s housewarming…

I’m on my way out to the Spiegeltent so that I can pretend I didn’t really miss the whole of the Melbourne Festival.

There are bits and pieces of the trip that didn’t get diarised for various reasons… In Paris, I went to the Centre Pompidou and popped into the Alors, La Chine? exhibition. One of the really stunning pieces was a series of books covered with red hand prints called Way of Reading by Geng Jian Yi. The artist covered the hands of people with red paint and then gave them identical blank books, so the books are covered with prints and smears in particular ways depending on how the people held and red the books. But I couldn’t help but read the work as a commentary on the amount of blood spilled during the cultural revolution: remove the words and the intellectual content and replace them with blood… scary.

Then I went to Jean Cocteau exhibition with Jonathan’s friend Narelle and then we went out for dinner with her partner Jean and had fabulous red wine and amazing conversations.

It was a great night. More little updates as I remember them…
