Someone explain to me how this actually managed to be published in this day and age. Racist and homophobic in one hit, this purports to be a fashion page from Details, April 2004… Of course, I’ll have to confirm it’s real before slamming it in the thesis…
The problem here is partly in the head “gay or asian?” which implied a) you can’t be gay and asian and b) ‘gay’ traits are similar to ‘asian male’ traits, i.e: both are emasculated, you can’t be a ‘real man’ and be gay or be asian, the two ideas are interchangeable.
In reading some responses to this, someone commented that the fashion editor of Details is a gay asian guy… so in that case, we’re expected to read this as satire? As a little joke? I don’t know what to think yet, but I find it quite confronting and affronting.
