Hmm. So, zarabee gave me a GMail account and I notice that delve has one too and now jen_tlemnfarmer is touting them. These are among the smarter folk I know, tech savvy and culturally savvy.
The T&Cs scared me, and so I don’t actually intend to use my account for anything much, apart from being on top of stuff as a digital cultural critic, but then patchworkkid pointed out this site. I hadn’t thought about the implications of GMail for the person who *sends* mail to a GMail user. And I hadn’t thought about the fact that Google keeps track of all my searches from this ‘puter so it knows both what professional things I look at and what kinky things I search for from the newsgroups. That’s *very* disturbing once my e‑mail address gets involved in this.
I don’t think I like this new world.
