Thank you, fizit, for organising our little jaunt to NICA’s Inferno. That was fantastic!
Dante descends into hell which is inhabited by jugglers with impeccable pecs and lascivious lats wearing red and black and leaping about in the vermillion light. Devilish Betty Page girls swirl hula hoops while men crack single-tail whips and a little lost clown boy clutches his teddy bear, looking forlorn in singed pyjamas. There is balancing and acrobatics, trapeze and dance. The music was superb too: White Stripes and lots of hellish tunes plus a final raucous piece of glorious defiance that reminded me of Augie’s Municipal Band from the Star Wars soundtrack (yes, okay, I’m a geek).
Costumes and lighting were great, as were the sets. The performers missed occasionally, but they are only students and they were having a great time. The only thing missing were knives and flame – a strange omission in hell.
I can’t wait for Woodford now! I’m going to take so many circus classes… Speaking of Woodford, I was offered a ticket by the Folk Federation office (yay!) even though I’m not teaching there this year, and on the same day razorgirl_au offered me a ticket we’d discussed briefly as well… So now I have a surfeit of Woodford tickets. I haven’t heard back from Chaedi on whether that one’s transferable (is it?) because I’m pretty sure orethule could use it if it is…
Whee!!!!!
