i) My favourite photo from the G8 protests: the modern-day equivalent of the roses in the gun barrel. Yes, that’s lipstick and yes, those are kiss marks. Poor police officer. Is he blushing? (Photo copyright AFP, linked from The Age)
ii) Many more die every day in other countries, bombed by US forces, British forces, Australian forces, Israeli forces, Palestinian teenagers, internal insurgents. Darfur was much, much worse than this. Is much, much worse than this. And did not have the same global reaction. I am saddened by that, at the same time as I am worried that I can’t work out what Kate Cottam’s e‑mail address is at the BBC and so can’t contact her to see if she’s okay.
iii) I have an anonymous correspondent on this journal. From things he’s said in the past, I think he lives in London at least some of the time. I have no idea what his name is or whether he would have any reason to be near the bomb sites. And yet, I find myself thinking about his whereabouts too. So, Bourdieu Boy, if you’re reading this, drop me a line and tell me you’re okay?
