no to the wto
no to the war machine
On November 9 - 13th, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) will gather in the inaccessible monarchy of Qatar. The WTO is an international body that oversees global trade. The WTO will be meeting to issue regulations to further expand the power and wealth of multinational corporations. The vast majority of the world's people, however, will receive little benefit. The WTO will expand capitalism's war on every day life -- poverty, exploitation, inequality and ecological destruction.
Walls are being built everywhere. Money is free to move anywhere but people are increasingly caged. The divide between rich and poor grows. What used to be held in common is now privatised -- enclosed, stolen and sold. Through the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) the WTO is seeking regulations that would force the privatisation of healthcare, education, welfare and many more public services. The WTO envisions a world where everything has a price and is available only to those who can afford to pay.
On November 9, we are calling on all people to reject war, nationalism and racism, to reject privatisation, capitalism and corporate rule. To reject the state and all institutions where decisions are made from above instead of from the people themselves.
side two:
We are joining in the global day of action from India to Canada, Bolivia to Indonesia. There will be no peace until there is a just economy based on mutual aid, cooperation and an equitable distribution of the world's wealth that satisfies the needs and desires of all, a world without rulers and violence.
We call for a day of celebration, of envisioning the possibilities of a different world, for direct democracy and autonomy not parliamentary bureaucracy and the lies of politicians.
Organise actions in your area. Free the city, reclaim the commons, take back privatised space. Distribute free food, free art, free conversation, free information, free parties. Engage, disrupt, negate, create, dream. Another world is possible.
There will be a spokes-council on Thursday the 8th in Melbourne, time and place to be announced, for the purposes of coordination and solidarity. We meet 6.30 Wed, Trades hall bar. Get an affinity group together and plan your actions.
Bring your festive gear and your resistive spirit. Autonomous actions are encouraged throughout the day.
